Daily Life
A typical day at Chalet Hohliebi begins with fresh bread from our local bakery. We eat a family-style breakfast with milk direct from the local farms, perform our morning chores, and pack sandwiches before setting off on the day's adventure. Days are full and vary depending on our activity– rock climbing, a mountain bike adventure, a cultural excursion, or perhaps the construction of a Tyrolean rope bridge. We prepare a family-style dinner and afterward may enjoy foosball on the porch, a movie night or an evening roundtable. A typical day on the trail starts with a wakeup to cowbells and snowy peaks. We then pack up our tents, make a hot breakfast on camp stoves, and prepare for the coming day. We arrive at our campsite or hut in time to relax, prepare a delicious supper and write in journals before a welcome slumber. Each day we name a student leader who learns our route, briefs the group, and assigns teams for daily routines. Days on the trail are sometimes coupled with rappelling, a visit to a local cheese maker or a summit ascent. Our three, multi-day excursions steadily increase in difficulty as students learn to handle all of the responsibilities of being in the high alpine country. The Summer Term’s authentic Swiss home at Chalet Hohliebi and the experienced leadership team create an extraordinary blend of tradition, perspective, cultural richness and challenge.
